The doubling cube is a die with the numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 marked on its sides. It is a fundamental element of backgammon strategy and is used by players to increase the original bet amount during gameplay.
How it works:
Either player can offer a double on their turn once the game has begun. Once a player has offered a double, the opponent can:
- accept and double the original bet amount;
- decline and forfeit the game at the original bet amount;
- or automatically redouble ( to 4 times the original bet.
Once a player has offered a double that has been accepted, he cannot offer another double until his opponent has offered a double. Doubling offers can reach a maximum of 64x the original bet.
In Backgammon Live, the “Max” bet amount indicates the highest bet amount achievable via the doubling cube.
